Namsan Tower, January 2021

Forgive me for posting an entry from January 2021. I’ve been slowly going through my photos and selecting (what I think are) the best ones and came across photos from when my friend Mary and I visited Namsan Tower.

Namsan Tower, also known as N Seoul Tower, is Korea’s first general radio wave tower and stands at 774 ft (236 meter), making it the second highest point in Seoul. In addition to being a great spot to view Seoul, Namsan Tower is known for its love padlocks–a practice where lovers write their initials, names, or other messages on a padlock, lock it somewhere, and then throw away the key to symbolize an unbreakable bond.

While visiting Namsan Tower is free, getting there isn’t easy. You can either walk up or pay a fee (15,000 won or $10.87 USD) to take the Namsan cable car. Being the klutz I am, I fell as we were getting out of the cable car but a nice person helped me up and only my pride was hurt.

It’s a beautiful view, but unfortunately my cell phone camera doesn’t take very good pictures so you’re stuck with most of the things on ground-level rather than views of the Seoul horizon in this entry.

I’m going to try and visit Namsan Tower again, now that it’s summer time. I expect it to be a lot busier now that we’re farther away from the pandemic and tourism has picked up again.
