Now that winter camp is over and we’re getting back into our regular program, here’s the final week lunch wrap-up!

Monday’s lunch was rice, hamburger steak with a slice of cheese, potato, sliced radish, a cube of fried tofu, some rolled egg omelet, stir-fried anchovies, a mini bottle of drinkable yogurt, and a mini bungeoppang λΆμ΄λΉ΅, a traditional winter dessert that is like a waffle in the shape of a fish filled with sweet red bean paste. The hamburger steak was really nice and I love bungeoppang so… 8/10

Tuesday gave us rice, battered chicken, a few pieces of ham, some cubes of meat (chicken?), cucumber and anchovy, cubed radish, a piece of battered shrimp, and more yogurt. I enjoyed the chicken, but this lunch felt a little protein-heavy for me. 6/10

Wednesday’s lunch was a kids lunch featuring spam and cucumber kimbap, sausage kimbap, some yubuchobap, orange glazed chicken, a bread and cheese roll, some strawberries and grapes, and a mini blueberry cookie for dessert. Each lunch had a little snail kimbap piece with rolled up ham for the shell and cheese for the face and body. 8/10

Our final winter camp lunch was a buffet from a popular buffet restaurant. In Korean, “buffet” is pronounced “beef-ay” which is really cute. I had two plates, picking up some broccoli chicken salad, spaghetti and meatballs with some sliced bread, jollof rice, spicy tteokbokki, and tiramisu for dessert. I was quite impressed with the students’ restraint when it came to serving themselves food–most ate a variety of things and didn’t go overboard on the ice cream. I was very impressed with the variety and quality of food served at the buffet, which felt far superior to what I think of when I think of American buffets. Also, they had a cooking robot which tickled my students because we had read a story about robots and I showed them a few videos of things that people have trained robots to do (like cook, clean, and perform surgery on a grape). (It is a little concerning that my students saw the robots and immediately shouted, “AI!” because they are two distinct technologies.) 10/10
Sadly, my new school doesn’t do camp so I don’t know the next time that I’ll do a post series like this one. You can always follow my instagram for regular shots of my food, as I do grab convenience store lunchboxes from time to time.
