Cafe Review: Danil Seoul

If you’re not looking for it, you’ll miss this pared down cafe located next to Seoul Forest.

The cafe features light wood walls with no decorations and a long center table. The espresso machine sits in a little nook in another area, away from customer view. The pour-over station is in the center of the long table where guests sit so you can watch your coffee being brewed.

I ordered Los Sauces, which has notes of “cranberry, cherry, orange, sugar cane, and maple syrup” and those were pretty on par with the notes I tasted as well. It was a pleasant, light-roasted, slightly fruity, sweet coffee that tasted wonderful iced on a warm spring day spent outside at a picnic table in Seoul Forest.

The order form is a slip of paper you fill out. You can choose your beverage hot or iced, and the main order is one of the following: filter, espresso, americano, cafe latte, or flat white. You can add vanilla syrup or cream for an additional cost.

For Los Sauces, there is also information in Korean about the farmer, which translates (via Papago):

“Farm owner Eduardo is a professional with rich experience in high-quality coffee production and started a new project on specialty coffee in the Uila region two years ago. The pink bourbon prepared this time is a rare type of of coffee grown on his small farm. Mostly grown in the Uila region, pink bourbon ripens red or yellow, while the fruit ripens pink or salmon. In the past, it was known as a natural cross between red and yellow bourbon, but recent genetic analysis suggested that it may be an Ethiopian breed that has nothing to do with bourbon. The flavor characteristics have a good combination of sour and sweet taste and have a delicate touch.”

My coffee order was finished quickly and the barista presented it to me on a tray, which was very classy. I got back my order form with the information about the coffee on it, as well as a complimentary stick of chocolate.

I highly recommend grabbing your coffee here before heading to Seoul Forest for a picnic.
