#7, The Clue in the Diary
In book number 7, Ned Nickerson, who later becomes Nancy’s beau, appears. I loved it whenever he flirted with Nancy, probably because I would like to believe it was good, wholesome flirting.
“You girls haven’t seen the last of me,” the young man called gaily after them. “I know the road to River Heights. Don’t be surprised if I follow it one of these days!”
“Say,” said Ned, “I have a notion to start a diary of my own!” “Why don’t you?” Nancy asked lightly. She became conscious that Ned’s eyes were looking straight at her. “I will if I can fill most of the pages with entries of dates with you.”
There is an ableist slur mentioned in the book regarding a home for disabled children.
Nancy gets slapped in the face!
The plot was a little farfetched, but I guess that’s Nancy Drew for you.
