#11, The Clue of the Broken Locket
This was an utterly forgettable book. I am unsure why there are four covers, rather than the three, so I have not noted their illustrators as I’m unsure who the art belongs to.
An honorable mention for phrase of the book was the term “noontime dinner,” which I have never heard of before.
Phrase of the Book
“What a ninny I am!”
Foods Mentioned
- fresh broiled lobster
- pecan pie (“That’s a real Southern dessert and I am now in Maryland.” – Bess)
- milk, cocoa, cookies, and ham sandwiches
- “Vanilla,” Bess replied with a twinkle. “With hot fudge sauce.”
- cookies and bottles of soda
- good, juicy steak
- “Hot tomato soup,” said Nancy, “with cream in it… and some toast to go with it.”
- “Anybody want a hamburger?” Bess giggled. “I’m going to make one for myself.”
- the delicious aroma of broiling bacon
- an appetizing meal of melon, bacon and eggs, toast and milk
Outfits
- turquoise earrings
- light raincoat and a head scarf
- blue jeans, shirts, and hiking shoes
Nancy’s Memento
At the end of the book, Nancy is promised the broken locket once its repaired.
“Thank you both. I’ll never, never forget you or the clue of the broken locket!”
